Meet Mollie & Lynwood
On October 10, 2009, I got the wonderful opportunity to coordinate this special wedding for a very special bride and her handsome groom. Mollie is a breast cancer survivor and it was very important for her to celebrate this in a big way, and what better way than on your wedding day. The nuptials and celebration were held at the beautiful Cedar Grove Tchoupitoulas Plantation. Hope you enjoy just a few personal photos of this wonderful wedding.
The inspiration for the big event was "pink and the breast cancer awareness symbols."
Thanks to all the great vendors especially:
Ceremony and Reception Venue - Cedar Grove Tchoupitoulas Plantation
Invitations and Programs - Kema LaCaze
Bridal and Bridesmaid Bouquets - Melanie Connor
Photographer - Sonny Randon Photography
Wedding Coordinator - Alpha Prosperity Events
To Mollie & Lynwood,
It was such an honor to serve you guys on your wedding day. I wish you many years of God's blessings, happiness and love.

I couldn't help but post my fave.
I just love this strapless, taffeta cocktail dress from Piccione from the Alfred Angelo Collection. The flirty feel and sophistication is so appreciated. Folks in the fashion industry have likened this dress to a wedding cake. (Now how decadent and yummy is that.) Yes, there are frills and what not but just think about the great pair of shoes you can pair with this dress. This dress is an excellent choice for the sophisticated bride, or a bride having an at-home or city wedding. This selection is fun, flirty and trendy, and you know, trendy is my middle name.

One of the hot wedding trends for 2010 is the backyard wedding. While getting married at home is not necessarily cheaper, it does allow for a more personal, intimate ceremony and reception. Intimate weddings allow the bride to enjoy her day and connect with all of the people that are important to both she and her husband to be. There is no worse feeling than having a huge wedding and you can't remember who was there, let alone if you got to spend time with dear Aunt Martha, who traveled all the way from London for your big day.
Some tips to remember when planning an intimate wedding ceremony at home:
- Hire a professional wedding planner or coordinator to assist with those last minute "murphy issues" that will arise. At home weddings are not as easy to pull off as one may think. There are space issues to be considered, and furniture and equipment rentals to be coordinated. Your coordinator can help you stay on budget, because issues can come up that will stress your budget to the max, like canopy rentals, or parking for guests. And, of course, your wedding coordinator will be able to assist you with selecting the best vendors for your budget and wedding style.
- Be realistic about space issues and what is possible at your home. No matter how big you think your backyard is, 300 people in a neighborhood backyard is unrealistic. Be aware of noise and parking restrictions within your area.
- There are no limitations to your style and dress decor. You can use as much imagination as you like. You can be as casual or as formal as you want. Give clues to the style and tone of your wedding through your invitations and decor. You want your guests to be comfortable in their style of dress as well.
- Keep in mind your wedding date and normal weather trends for your area. An outdoor wedding in July - September in the Houston or New Orleans areas is not impossible but you want to be prepared for the humidity, and heat as well as the many tropical storms or hurricanes that can pop up this time of the year. Create a plan to keep yourself as well as your guests comfortable.
This past weekend I attended the Bridal Show Extravaganza. This show is one of the largest in Houston and when I say large, I mean large. I was completely exhausted after all the walking we did. I attended this with one of my very excited brides and she wanted to see everything. And there was definitely a lot to see.
There were tons of vendors from photography, cake decorators, bridal party attire, wedding planners, you name it, they were there. There was so much to see, one could easily become overwhelmed with the whole process, unless you had a wedding planner or coordinator like Alpha Prosperity Events. Therefore, since it is my job, as a Houston Area Wedding Coordinator, to make sure that you don't get overwhelmed, I have listed some things you can do to make the most of your time, while attending a bridal show in Houston or in your area. If you keep these thoughts in mind, I guarantee, you will feel like you got something accomplished.
And for those of you that can even fathom the thought of going to a bridal show or any thing like it, hire a wedding coordinator to make all of this planning so much easier.

- Before going to the show, try to find out what vendors will be there. You can usually find this out online at the show's website.
- Make sure you are not pushed for time. These shows have many vendors and ideas available and you don't want to miss any thing because you are in a rush.
- Decide what vendors you are still needing to select or interview. Visit those vendors first.
- Come prepared with a list of questions, the first question being, "Are you available for my date?" If they are not available, move on to the next vendor. Keep your questions brief for this first contact.
- Be prepared to schedule an appointment. Vendors are trying to meet as many people as possible, just like you are. If you like their answers to your few questions, and they may be someone you want to consider, schedule another consultation with them at a date later in the week. Be aware of when their "show special" ends, and make sure it will still be available when you meet for your consultation.
- Take your own notes, listing what you liked and didn't like about each vendor you speak with. Try to also write something about the vendor or the booth (very organized, nice outfit, close to Missouri City and Sugar Land area, loved the booth colors in pink and brown) to help you remember who was who.
- Keep all your notes in one place, like your planner or notebook. The vendor will probably have fliers and handouts, but don't rely upon these only because you won't remember who was who after talking with so many.
- Bring the groom, if you can talk him into it. It's his wedding too, and he might have some helpful ideas or suggestions about what he would like to see. Also, there are lots of tuxedo vendors at these shows as well, so you can get him and the groomsmen all "tucked" away.
- Try not to have too many people attend with you because everyone will have an opinion and will pull you in different directions. But it is good to have a few trusted friends to help with some ideas and to help hold the many items you will pick up along the way. (All that paper gets heavy after awhile).
- If you feel very comfortable with a particular vendor and they are meeting all of your needs, be prepared to book that vendor, right then and there. This is especially true if you are at on a short time line or if this vendor is a popular provider of service.
- You may want to bring your own pre-printed labels. Vendors will be seeking your name address, wedding date and email when you enter for their give aways and raffles.
- Bring your datebook, checkbook, credit card, so that you can take advantage of discounts and "show specials."
- There are lots of freebies and ideas so register for everything but ask the vendor what they plan to do with your info. We wouldn't want to get spammed.
- Wear comfortable shoes because you will do lots of walking.
- Have fun and enjoy the attention because you will get lots of it.
And for those of you that can even fathom the thought of going to a bridal show or any thing like it, hire a wedding coordinator to make all of this planning so much easier.
